Camera sales fall by 40%
Continuing an ominous trend, shipments of cameras from Japanese manufacturers have dropped again this year — by 42%. This is according to CIPA (Camera and Imaging Products Association), the Japanese imaging manufacturers association, based on Jan–Jun 2013 compared to the same period last year.
Point-and-shoot (compact, or built-in lens) cameras took the biggest hit, falling 48%. But even shipments of DSLR and mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras were down 18%.
