Shutterstock sells 200 million images
Shutterstock announced today that it has surpassed 200 million licensed image downloads, making it the first microstock company to declare such an achievement.
“Serving over two hundred million downloads has given us a powerful glimpse into emerging visual trends, and the ways that people use images to tell stories. .. Being at the intersection between millions of customers and hundreds of thousands of contributors, the content and activity in our marketplace is an ever-changing reflection of the world around us.”

The company released a series of findings about trends in visual media through an infographic (above, and also here).
“After 8 years, 17 million images and over 200 million downloads, Shutterstock has become one of the world’s leading marketplaces for visual media. We have artists and photographers from more than 100 countries, and customers in more than 150. But perhaps most significant about these milestones is that it has led to tens of thousands of image searches each day — giving us valuable insight into design trends around the world.”
